Thanks to those of you who have recommended Amazing Wok on W. Liberty to me. It's wonderful.
The vegetables are fresh and not overcooked.
The meat is fresh and suitably lean, and not gristly.
The sauces are superior.
They have brown rice available.
It's just a block beyond the Pittsburgh city line, barely in Dormont, almost in Brookline.

I'm not sure which is the worst idea/horsemanship on here. It could be getting on the blind horse who hasn't been ridden for seven years, bareback and bridleless without a helmet. Or possibly getting on the UNBROKE mini bareback and bridleless 'just for entertainment'. Or maybe getting on the mule lying down, and jumping on its back until it gets up and bucks her off. Or even just getting on every random horse/donkey/cow she sees bareback and being suprised when she gets bucked off (without a helmet). How much more fail could you pack into that short a time?!

| I've booked my 2010 Trips |

Well ok, I've booked one of the two. But I will be booking the second one in March. I'm so freakishly excited. I made a pact with myself that I would travel in 2010 and have a blast. I'm finally finished school in May 2010 - I'm on my way to being "responsible" with a full time job, a car that is paid for, and likely a condo by summer. So, the other, immature part of me, is willing to blow a considerable amount of money just to get the hell out of Dodge, reward myself for my 20-yes! 20! straight years of school and freakishly crazy schedules and have a mindless time.
So the first trip is one that I believe I mentioned - Puerto Vallarta. Booked for June 7-13. My best friend and I are going together. Her parents have a time share in one of the all-inclusive resorts-the Paradise Village Beach Resort . Food, booze, scuba diving and beach horseback rides. So, aside from the fact that I have never been to Mexico before, I'm more excited because this is my first trip outside of Canada that hasn't included my parents :P That alone is cause for celebration ;) My trip is a grad present from my parents, which is absolutely amazing of them to do :)
Next trip I'm scheduling for October-so still enough time to save up for it, thank God. This is my absolute dream trip-something that I have wanted to do for as long as I can remember. Riding and Cooking in Tuscany Combining my absolute two favorite things; riding and cooking lessons :P 7 blessed days in Italy with riding and food and a spa and castles-could it get any better? I have a friend that wants to come with me, but I'm not entirely sure that I don't want to do this by myself LOL, but we shall see! Some time to still think about it; as I can't book the tour until March.
Yes kids. I'm very, very excited. And I deserve it. Most people I know would have had a nervous breakdown with the schedule that I keep-and have kept for over 5 years. So little Kayla is going to cut loose ;)

not bad_riding at all, but posted anyway to be used as a sort of brain-bleach for all the *crappy* home-made videos we've been seeing lately of teenage girls and their horses. this girl and her pony are so cute and check out the girl's position when she takes the fence bareback! my only nit-picky complaint is the connectors on the pelham but the pony seems to work well with it, so it doesn't bother me too much.

[Tuesday

So my trimmer DID end up calling, an hour and a half after I made the post. Gem was a bit pissy, but she's been in a mood the past couple days so I wasn't surprised.
I borrowed a camera from my brother-in-law for the convention. It's a Nikon... DX, I think? I'm not any kind of photographer or anything, but it'll be nice to have some decent pictures of the guests this year! I don't plan on spending most of my time behind the camera lens, so I don't know how many pictures I'll be taking, but at least the ones I do have will be decent. My BIL said he doesn't mind if I "practice" with it, so I intend to take full advantage of the situation and take some good pics of Gem.

| R. I. P. -- Perce' |
[Tuesday
November 10th, at 9:00pm] |
|
Goodnight Sweet Prince.
Perce was the homeliest Appaloosa I have ever seen. He had a face only a mother could love and the ugliest rat-tail you have ever seen. Perce was very sweet and not too smart. He was patient, kind and rarely stubborn or difficult. The love of Perce's life was a tall chestnut mare named Roxie. He would stand by the gate of the barn if she was still inside and wait for her to be let out, patiently without making a ruckus. Perce was not one of those vocal horses always attracting attention to himself. He was just a regular "Joe".
I only rode him a few times since we usually put beginners on him. What I remember most about Perce is how his coat would shine in the sun. He was never much to look at until the sun came out. He had a copper chestnut coat with a dusting of a snow blanket on his hind end. His summer coat would shine just like a brand new penny.

| Fractured hand/finger -- won't be on for a bit! |
[Tuesday
November 10th, at 7:48pm] |
|
I fractured my left ring finger badly on Monday morning when Mylie panicked after thr farrier lightly tapped her barrel with his hoofpick by accident, i held on to her leadrope to stop her from doing her thing (ie. running away when scared) but my hand caught in the loop of the leadrope and spent the afternoon in the hospital getting x-rays and have an appointment with a hand specialist tomorrow to make sure it doesn't heal badly and make sure it won't cause any issues with riding! I let you guys know what happens with Mylie's training, she's going back to her trainer the first week of December!

My trimmer said he would call and tell me when I should meet him at the barn today, no earlier than 12:30. He was supposed to come last week, but an earlier appt was cancelled, and when he called to tell me he wasn't coming he said he "almost forgot about me".
It's 2 o'clock.
I don't think he's going to call.

| Good Jam. |
[Tuesday
November 10th, at 1:51pm] |
|
Hi, so I'm relatively new to Pittsburgh, at least in the sense that I'm not yet fully familiar with where to get good food.
I need good jam.
When I first moved here, I got some awesome jam in Toronto, and then mid-way through summer I bought more delicious jam when I went to Lancaster (at Kauffmans.)
But I recently ran out and I've yet to find any good jam here in Pittsburgh.
And I'm not brave enough to buy anything expensive just to find out it's awful.
I keep buying Trader Joe's brand and it makes me sad inside. Because it's gross. And it totally ruins the awesome scones I get from the Mediterra bakehouse (via the East End Co-op.)
So plase share with me what you know about good jam in the 'burgh. (And other food too!)

Greetings, salutations, hullo, etc. :)
The tl;dr version: I'm 27, working part time at a job I don't love, no kids, no SO, no responsibilities other than some debt for school, started riding when I was 7, have not shown extensively, and I have wanted to ride professionally since I was a kid. Am I nuts for trying to see if I can make it work?

| Advice for owning a deaf horse? |

Hi all, I posted about a month ago here. teadog1425 brought up an interesting idea that I had never considered, that my horse might be a splashed white overo Paint and hence could be deaf. Well, that never in a million years would have crossed my mind, but after my last post I've been seriously thinking about it and how it would explain so much about his behavior.

You know that .gif, I've seen it around as an icon as well, with the stick figure guy sitting behind his desk, and he bashes his head into it over and over until his face just sort of implodes into a gooey, bloody mess?
Yeah. That's how I feel about the fandom reaction to Jensen's engagement.
If anyone says ONE NEGATIVE WORD about it at the convention this weekend, I will hide my head in shame and hope to convince the boys that I'm not FUCKING INSANE like everyone else. I don't care if you're sad because you have some crazy delusion that you and Jensen were getting married one day, or if you're sad because you're oh-so-sure that he and Jared are secretly together, KEEP. YOUR. DAMN. MOUTHS. SHUT.
This - this is not directed towards anybody on my flist, I want to clarify. I mean all the random people who call themselves "fans" who are throwing a shit fit. I'm leaving my own personal thoughts on the matter out of this, I just can't believe the outright lack of respect for people that the fans claim to idolize.
I'm crossing my fingers that the con will go over smoothly, because despite trepidation I'm hella excited and I'm interested to see if Jensen is willing to tell the story. I hope they moderate the questions in order to avoid the inevitable wank.
It's sad when you can't be just plain excited over something like this because other people don't know how to play nice.
ETA: What I find interesting is the difference between this, and the reaction to Jared's engagement to Sandy a while ago. And by "interesting", I mean, "I can't believe the utter shallowness of this fandom sometimes".
